We love this recipe. The majority of my kids like it, even though it is quite spicy (you can adjust the heat if you want). We eat it with the raita over rice or on a pita/tortilla.
Note to family: This is not the meal to cook if you are having my parents over for dinner.
Ha Ha! I can only imagine the look on your fathers face. Looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteI love Indian food and always on the lookout for a good tikka-masala recipe, so I was happy to see this one. I made it last night for dinner and have to say it was really good. I read the reviews from the allrecipes site and took the advise about the salt content, which I'm glad I did. The recipe calls for a lot of salt! I only used maybe a 1/2 tsp. of salt in the marinade and about the same in the sauce and it was fine (I definately wouldn't use more). Also, if you have garam masala spice, it really adds a great flavor to the marinade and sauce. Garam masala is a wonderful Indian spice that's a mixture of several spices and is a must in Indian cooking. I didn't measure it, but I probably added a TBS to the marinade and sauce. For the marinade I used Greek yogurt, which is slightly more tangy than traditional yogurt. The reviews I read suggested doubling the sauce so there is more to soak up the rice, which I'm glad I did. In doubling the sauce recipe I used 1 cup cream as the recipe calls for, and then I used 1 cup coconut milk. I have to say, the sauce is really good! I've tried different tikka masala recipes and this one is by far the best I've tried. My extremely picky 15 year old actually said he liked it, and my husband who doesn't like Indian food, also said it was pretty good. That was a huge compliment!
